Kuala Lumpur Travel Guide: Must-See Sights & Tips

What to Do, Where to Stay & How to Get Around

We visited Kuala Lumpur as a couple, and it was one of the best trips. From tasty food to beautiful sights, we loved every part of it. Here’s a simple look at what we did and why we think it’s a great place for other couples and families to visit too.

🌟 Top Things to Do in Kuala Lumpur

🐦 1. Kuala Lumpur Bird Park

This was a really fun place for us. The KL Bird Park is full of birds we had never seen before. It’s like a big open-air zoo for birds – you can walk around and see them flying above you or just walking next to you.

🏙️ 2. Petronas Twin Towers

An absolute must-see. The towers are stunning up close, especially when lit up at night. We went up to the Skybridge and observation deck — the views are amazing. Plus, there’s a beautiful park and shopping centre right below. After visiting the towers we went to the park for a stroll and then went for shopping. We also had dinner at an Indian restaurant called Le Mirch which had a great view of the Petronas Towers.

🛕 3. Batu Caves

A short ride from the city, this iconic site is known for its colourful staircase and towering golden statue. Climbing the steps is a bit of a workout, but the views and atmosphere at the top make it worth it. It’s important to note—there are lots of monkeys around! They may look cute, but keep an eye on your bags and snacks because they’re sneaky! One tip: The taxi drivers will charge a much higher price, so consider using Grab.

🕌 4. Visit Local Landmarks

One of the most peaceful and beautiful places we visited was Masjid Wilayah. The architecture is breathtaking, and it was a peaceful break.
Another place worth visiting is the Islamic Arts Museum. The building itself is beautiful, and inside you’ll find stunning exhibits of calligraphy, textiles, jewelry, and artifacts from across the Muslim world. It’s peaceful, educational, and a must-visit for culture lovers.

🌇 5. Dinner at KL Tower Sky Deck

This was one of our favourite experiences. We had dinner at the revolving restaurant at the top of KL Tower — with a full 360° view of the city. The food was average, but the view and live music made the whole evening unforgettable.

Reserve your table here.

🏮 6. Explore Chinatown & Little India

KL is a melting pot of cultures. We spent time walking through Chinatown and Little India exploring local shops. Perfect for a relaxed afternoon.

🏛️ 7. Explore Merdeka Square

Merdeka Square is the historic heart of Kuala Lumpur and a must-visit for anyone interested in the city’s rich past. The Sultan Abdul Samad building is also located there. We were lucky as we visited the Merdeka square on Independence day (31. August). The Merdeka Square was packed with people and there were alot food trucks. We were there at night so we decided to wait untill midnight to see the fireworks and there was also a ceremony happening on the roof of the Sultan Abdul Samad building.

🍴 Bonus: Street Food & Fresh Coconut Water

Wherever you go in Kuala Lumpur, there’s good food nearby. We loved the fresh coconut water from street stalls and the street food at Jalan alor was delicious.
If you are Muslim travelling to Kuala Lumpur you don’t need to worry about Halal food, mostly every restaurant is Halal. There are some restaurants which are not Halal-certified. It’s best to avoid Chinese restaurants that’s the advice we got from a local taxi driver when we asked about Halal food.
