If you’re planning a trip to Mallorca and wondering where to stay—especially with a baby or young kids—you’re in the right place. During our recent family vacation to this beautiful Spanish island, we stayed in two very different areas: the peaceful Cala Bona and the city of Palma. Each offered something unique, and both gave us memories we’ll never forget.
Here’s a little insight into what staying in these two places is really like, based on our own experience as a couple traveling with a baby.
Cala Bona: The Perfect Spot to Slow Down
We started our trip in Cala Bona, a small beach town on Mallorca’s east coast. This place is a hidden gem for families. It’s quiet, calm, and completely walkable, which made everything easier with our baby. No taxis needed here! Everything—restaurants, shops, the beach—is right along the promenade, so we could just stroll with the stroller and stop wherever we wanted.
What We Loved About Cala Bona:
- Super relaxed vibe – no party crowds or loud bars.
- Baby-friendly – every restaurant had baby chairs, and the staff were always warm and welcoming.
- Beautiful promenade – perfect for evening walks by the sea.
- Walkable – everything is in walkable distance.
Just a short walk away is Cala Millor, a bigger town with a longer beach and more shops if you want a bit more action for the day. Most of the stuff is in Cala Millor, so we just used to walk down the promenade to Cala Millor. It is a 20 minutes walk.
If you’re a family looking for peace, comfort, and beach time without the stress—Cala Bona is perfect.
Palma: A Lively City Stay
After fully relaxing in Cala Bona, we made our way to Palma, the capital of Mallorca. It has a totally different vibe—busy, energetic, and full of history.
We stayed near the airport, which turned out to be a smart decision. It’s quieter than staying right in the city center and away from the nightlife scene, which was ideal for us with a baby. There’s also a super convenient A1 bus that runs between the airport and the city center.
Palma Pros:
- Easy access to the city via public transport.
- Lots of cafés, shopping, and historic sights.
- Ideal if you want a mix of beach and city life.
Final Thoughts: Where Should You Stay?
- Stay in Cala Bona if you want a quiet, stress-free beach holiday with everything in walking distance. It’s ideal for couples and families, especially with young kids or babies.
- Stay near Palma if you’re looking to explore the island’s cultural side and don’t mind a bit more action. Staying outside the city center can be a great option for families wanting a quieter base.
